Lucy (the work experience girl)
I’m Lucy Cooper and I’m 16 years old. At the beginning of this week, Monday 6th December, I joined the Proudfoot Company
as part of my work experience.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but my dad kind of knows these guys and assured me that they were a friendly bunch. So I was pretty excited about seeing what it was like at a place where they make films, which sounded far more exciting to me, than some of the places my friends were going to; a library, a hospital, a hairdressers.
One of the things that has been said to me multiple times throughout the week by these guys is, “Oh, it’s such a shame we aren’t doing any shoots this week!” and, “You know, we aren’t always spending our time in here.”
Now in fairness, when I first heard this, I did sort of think, “Oh, so maybe they’ll make me do a load of filing and stuff then?” and I also wondered if I’d be sitting here bored.
But the thing is, to be bored you have to be around boring people.
The thing with editing films is that you have to go through them over, so I got the chance to watch numerous films and projects that are currently being worked on. I managed to observe here, that isn’t just the case that the films are clear and well presented –but they’re actually interesting. Each film has been cleverly crafted so that the information is clear, but the topic is engaging at the same time.
Not only have I watched some films, but I’ve also been able to see how films are put together, the effort that is it put in, and the time it takes to get every little detail perfect. I had no idea how important sound is in a film, or the lengths people go to, to get the timings slotting together perfectly.
Myself, I was set a task of adding the French subtitles to a couple of films Proudfoot have made, which, as I keep convincing myself, definitely counts as revision towards my French GCSE!
I’m not sure how much I was supposed to write for this little blog entry, but I’m going to wrap it up here. So basically, the Proudfoot gang have truly left me feeling positive for the future. I sincerely hope that I’m able to be in the same situation as them when I’m older – working somewhere with great people, doing something I love and creating products to be proud of. Or should I say, to be PROUDfoot of
?!
…Sorry, I just couldn’t resist!
